RASPBERRIES

Raspberries are perennial with woody stems in the genus Rubus of the rose family. Extremely rich in vitamin C and B and also vitamin A. In addition to refreshing and excellent taste, raspberries have a range of medicinal properties. The fruit is rich in plant fibers and has a positive effect on the regulation of sugar and cholesterol in the blood as well as the bowel movements. Raspberry leaf tea is also used to treat many different diseases. The plant thrives in almost any soil type and different altitudes. It belongs to a very profitable and useful plant species. The profitability of production is reflected in early birth, regularly and abundant yield, and high demand in the manufacturing industry. Raspberry fruit is used in the production of juices, jams, sugar, syrup, and compotes sold on the market both fresh and frozen. Serbia is one of the leading producers of raspberry in the world and has a long tradition of producing high-quality raspberry plants. Our experts in the field of raspberry plant production in Serbia are working together with the biggest producers of raspberry in our region to produce the best quality raspberry plants made exclusively in our specialized mother nurseries.

PLANTING SYSTEMS AND SPACING

Depending on the climate conditions, variety, and applied agrotechnical methods, the most commonly used training systems in raspberry cultivating are: bush with square spacing, bush with rectangular spacing, ribbon, and hedge system. The spacing between rows in the

  • Rectangular bush system has the spacing between rows in the is 2,0 - 3,0 m and 1,0-1,20 m in the row itself. In order for a bush to be formed, usually, 3 to 4 seedlings are planted in one hole.

  • Hedge training system is best when it comes to mechanical processing, labor consumption, fruit quality, and care, as well as yield height. This training system has several variants among which the vertical trellis with two supporting wires is considered to be the optimal one in the commercial production of raspberries that bear fruit once a season. Wooden or concrete pillars with a height of 2 meters and a width of 8-10 centimeters are most commonly used as trellis support. Besides pillars and wire, most raspberry nurseries use three or more horizontally placed laths as additional trellis support.

  • Ribbon training system is considered to be the best one for twice-bearing raspberries production. The seedling spacing is 2,50-3,0 x 5,0 m. No new offsprings are allowed between rows, unlike those that emerge from the underground suckers of the previous offsprings. One or two offsprings are planted in place and only the offsprings for replacement are left in place. That way the width of the raspberry growth zone reaches about 40 cm and the bushes are spaced apart, which allows for easy maintenance and processing. The offsprings get sufficient sunlight and ripen well, while disease and pest control is simpler to achieve.
